Mumford & Sons Debut New 'Prizefighter' Tracks on Saturday Night Live

Instructions

Mumford & Sons recently graced the stage of Saturday Night Live for their fourth time, delivering performances of two new tracks from their highly anticipated album, 'Prizefighter'. This appearance highlights the band's continued musical evolution and their collaborative spirit, bringing new sounds and artistic partnerships to a broad audience.

The acclaimed English folk-rock group, whose last 'SNL' appearance was in 2018 to promote their album 'Delta', kicked off their set with 'Rubber Band Man.' This song features Irish musician Hozier and was co-written by Brandi Carlile. Adding to the dynamic performance, Hozier himself joined the band on stage, alongside co-producer Aaron Dessner of The National, creating a rich, layered sound that captivated the audience.

Marcus Mumford, the band's frontman, expressed his profound connection to 'Prizefighter' several months prior to its release, declaring it his favorite album to date. He shared with People Magazine, "We've reached a point in our careers where we're genuinely comfortable with who we are, allowing us to communicate directly through our music. This album is our most direct yet, truly reflecting the essence of our identity. That's why I hold it in such high regard; translating that authenticity into a recording can be incredibly challenging, and while one can often get close to success, there's usually some facade. This record, however, feels devoid of any pretense. It's just us and our friends, embodying what our band truly represents."

Ted Dwane, co-founder and bassist, also lauded Dessner's exceptional production skills, remarking, "Dessner feels like a true ally. We've long admired The National, and our collaboration with him began when we were preparing our third album, 'Wilder Mind'." The band's second song performed on 'SNL' was 'Here,' the opening track from 'Prizefighter,' which features Chris Stapleton. This performance also saw the return of Aaron Dessner, joined by the talented singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell, further enriching the live experience.

'Prizefighter' marks Mumford & Sons' second album release in less than a year, following 'Rushmere,' which debuted last March. 'Rushmere' was significant as it was their first album as a trio, subsequent to guitarist and banjoist Winston Marshall's departure from the band, partly due to ideological differences with his bandmates. The band is currently embarking on a global tour, with performances scheduled in Australia and New Zealand in April, followed by stops in North America in June, and then Europe. They are expected to return to the United States through October, headlining the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville, Kentucky.

The band's recent 'Saturday Night Live' appearance served as a compelling platform to introduce their latest musical endeavors, emphasizing their evolving sound and collaborative spirit. Their tour plans further solidify their commitment to sharing their music with a global audience, showcasing the depth and artistic growth evident in 'Prizefighter'.
