Welsh Delegation Set to Make Waves at Global Gaming Summit

Instructions

A group of thirty representatives from fifteen Welsh enterprises is set to participate in the Game Developers Conference, an international hub for gaming experts. This prestigious event offers a platform for showcasing innovative games and fostering enduring global collaborations. High-profile meetings with industry giants like Playstation and Niantic are already scheduled as part of the itinerary. The global gaming market is valued at approximately £352 billion, presenting vast opportunities for expansion within Wales and beyond. Creative Wales has prioritized this sector by supporting 77 digital companies specializing in gaming, animation, and immersive technology.

Inspired by past successes, many Welsh gaming firms have capitalized on their involvement in last year’s trade mission, securing deals worth over £3 million. Among the newcomers joining the delegation is Jonathan Quinn, Technical Director at Aardman Animations. With nearly a decade of experience, Quinn is now establishing his own game studio, Breaking Change, in Newport. His decision to locate in Wales was significantly influenced by the supportive community he encountered at a recent San Francisco conference. Quinn expressed enthusiasm about the potential for growth and collaboration within the Welsh gaming scene.

Susan Cummings, a trailblazer in gaming technology and CEO of 10six Games, will also be representing Wales at the conference. She will engage in a debate exploring the future of the gaming industry. Cummings, who has attended the conference since 1996, praised Creative Wales for promoting local indie studios on a global scale. Minister of Culture, Jack Sargeant, attending the event for the first time, emphasized the immense potential of the Welsh gaming sector. He highlighted the importance of attracting investors and creating quality employment opportunities for current and future generations through such initiatives.

The journey to elevate the Welsh gaming industry on the world stage exemplifies the power of collaboration and innovation. By nurturing local talent and embracing global partnerships, Wales is poised to become a significant player in the gaming universe. This commitment not only boosts economic growth but also fosters a vibrant community where creativity thrives.
