Sony Unveils New High-Speed Global Shutter Image Sensors

Sony Semiconductor Solutions has expanded its lineup of global shutter image sensors with the introduction of the IMX928 and IMX929, building upon the foundation of the previously unveiled 105-megapixel IMX927. These new additions, while featuring lower pixel counts, maintain the series' commitment to exceptional speed and are designed to enhance various industrial applications.

The IMX928 is a 68.16-megapixel global shutter sensor with a square form factor measuring 22.5 by 22.5 millimeters. Its counterpart, the IMX929, is a smaller 50.79-megapixel square sensor, approximately 19.9 by 19.9 millimeters. Both sensors demonstrate remarkable speed, with the IMX928 capturing 12-bit images at 90 frames per second and the IMX929 achieving an impressive 136 frames per second. This rapid data output is facilitated by optimized sensor drive mechanisms and advanced A/D converters, significantly boosting processing efficiency for demanding industrial environments.

These advanced global shutter sensors are primarily targeted at industrial sectors, including factory automation, 3D inspection, and flaw detection, particularly in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
