Spanning an impressive 4,200 square feet, The Maze offers a diverse array of amenities, including a sophisticated restaurant, an engaging sports lounge, and an intimate speakeasy, all operating under a strict alcohol-free policy. The design of The Maze presented a unique challenge, expertly tackled by Aria Jahanshahi of Opa Architecture and Adrienne Lamb of Laube Studio. Their objective was to craft a space that is both dynamic and adaptable, capable of hosting a wide spectrum of activities, from casual meetings to lively social gatherings. The entrance immediately immerses visitors in a refined atmosphere, featuring a deep green reception area adorned with matching mosaic flooring. This leads seamlessly into the main dining room, which serves as the central hub of activity throughout the day and into the evening. Members can enjoy coffee, conduct business meetings, collaborate, or simply unwind over dinner, complemented by a regularly updated calendar of engaging events.
A pivotal feature within the main dining area is the meticulously designed bar. Faced with verdant tiles and topped with an elegant green stone counter, the bar is framed by large antique mirrors, creating a focal point that is both inviting and understated. The designers acknowledged the critical importance of understanding the client's experiences within the sober community to ensure the bar's design was not only functional but also comforting and non-triggering. The emphasis was placed on the visual artistry of mocktail preparation, rather than the display of non-alcoholic spirits, to cultivate an experience that is fun, elegant, and subtly sophisticated.
The club's aesthetic continues into the adjoining sports lounge, where shades of green persist, blending tennis-inspired geometric patterns with the relaxed ambiance of an Italian café. This area is equipped with a pool table and expansive television screens for sports viewing, alongside plush, adaptable seating arrangements perfect for smaller groups and events. Adrienne Lamb highlighted the venue's versatility, noting that unlike conventional members' clubs, The Maze is active throughout the entire day, not solely during evening hours, offering members continuous opportunities for engagement.
A shift in the colour palette to darker burgundy tones and rich wood panelling distinguishes the speakeasy area, imbuing it with a sense of privacy and intimacy.
