Chopard L.U.C Strike One Titanium with Salmon Dial: A Harmonious Blend of Heritage and Innovation

Instructions

Chopard's horological journey has been marked by continuous innovation and a commitment to exquisite craftsmanship, particularly evident in the evolution of its chiming mechanisms. Thirty years ago, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele inaugurated the Manufacture in Fleurier, laying the groundwork for a lineage of sophisticated movements. Following the debut of the L.U.C 1.96 calibre, the brand quickly ascended to complex horology, introducing the L.U.C Strike One in 2006 as its first chiming watch. This model, a testament to Chopard's enduring pursuit of excellence, has been refined over the years, notably incorporating patented sapphire crystal gongs. The latest iteration, a lightweight titanium model with a captivating salmon dial, draws directly from the 2022 Strike One design, highlighting a harmonious blend of historical reverence and cutting-edge materials. In 2016, the L.U.C Full Strike, an in-house minute repeater with groundbreaking sapphire crystal gongs, further solidified Chopard's reputation for innovation, leading to the more compact and refined Strike One editions in rose gold and white gold, which featured a simpler chime-in-passing function.

The new 40mm model is a masterpiece of precision engineering and aesthetic appeal, meticulously crafted from a single block of Grade 5 titanium. Its sleek profile, with a height of just 9.86mm, combines a vertically satin-brushed caseband with polished bezel and caseback, creating a refined contrast. The 7.8mm fluted crown, adorned with the L.U.C logo, integrates a pusher for easily activating or silencing the hourly chime. Chopard emphasizes that the titanium case, despite its lightness, does not compromise the watch's acoustic properties, thanks to the patented monobloc sapphire construction where the gongs and crystal are seamlessly machined from a single sapphire block, serving as an integrated resonator. The dial, crafted from an 18k ethical rose gold base and finished in a vibrant salmon hue, features a hand-guilloché honeycomb pattern at its center, a tribute to Louis-Ulysse Chopard's historical use of beehive motifs. This intricate design is encircled by a snailed chapter ring with rhodium-plated chevron hour indices. A distinctive cut-out at 12:30 reveals the mirror-polished hammer, while a small circular aperture at noon indicates the chiming status (white for active, ruthenium for silent), adding a functional yet elegant detail. Rhodium-plated Dauphine hands and a snailed small seconds counter at 6 o’clock complete the dial's sophisticated layout, complemented by a peripheral railway-style minutes track engraved on the sapphire crystal.

Turning the watch over, the exhibition caseback offers a glimpse into the heart of this horological marvel: the L.U.C 96.32-L movement, an evolution of the calibre 96, meticulously finished with 275 components. This COSC chronometer-certified movement, featuring a 22k gold micro-rotor and a swan-neck regulator, is adorned with exquisite Côtes de Genève decorations. With Chopard’s Twin Technology, dual stacked barrels provide an impressive 65-hour power reserve. Both the movement and the watch itself are further distinguished by the prestigious Poinçon de Genève hallmark, signifying exceptional quality and finishing. This new model is elegantly paired with a dark grey grained calfskin strap, secured by a titanium pin buckle, offering a refined and comfortable wearing experience. Priced at CHF 55,000, this timepiece represents a significant addition to Chopard’s distinguished L.U.C collection.

This timepiece transcends mere utility, embodying a legacy of precision and artistic innovation. It serves as a testament to the enduring pursuit of perfection, reminding us that true artistry lies in harmonizing intricate mechanics with captivating aesthetics, creating objects that inspire wonder and appreciation for the mastery of human endeavor.
